Senior Software Engineer
Type: Full Time

BigMachines, Inc., a profitable, rapidly growing web software company (www.bigmachines.com) founded in 2000 with offices in Deerfield, IL (Chicago north suburbs) and San Mateo, CA (Peninsula/Bay Area), is in search of talented software engineers. The company has been growing over 50% per year, is led by a strong management team, and backed by strong financial investors, who are looking to accelerate the company's growth to the next level.

To support our rapid growth, we are seeking talented, motivated engineers to join our office in Chicago. You must bring a passion for programming and developing innovative solutions. As an experienced software engineer, you will have the opportunity to work with a powerful web application using some of the latest technologies with a brilliant, talented bunch of developers solving complex problems. You will work closely with BigMachines development team to build and deploy our solution. Your core responsibilities will include:

Responsibilities:

  • Will be part of a team of highly talented team working on a leading-edge product.
  • Involves understanding the J2EE product space and all Java standards.
  • Develop new product features and collaborate with server-side and UI developers to build components using Core Java, JSPs/Servlets, JDBC, HTML/XML, Web services, AJAX, Javascript libraries, Spring etc.
  • Designing and implementing product features and developing tests in a timely fashion following team processes and standards.
  • Involves understanding of basic database architecture and design.
  • Produce high quality code
  • Perform peer code review and overall site QA
  • Bring new and fresh ideas to the table
  • Stay updated of new technologies and of changes in technologies that affect front-end web development
  • Be an effective communicator and in addition, could mandate being an effective scrum master/ module lead/ project lead as required.

Qualifications:

  • A Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related software engineering discipline, or equivalent
  • 3 or more years experience developing web applications
  • Expert knowledge of Java/J2EE technologies
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills
  • Ability to work constructively with developers, QA, Systems and Project managers towards a common goal
  • Strong focus on problem solving and analysis with ability to understand problems in context of end-users and technical requirements
  • Experience with Unit Testing Automation frameworks, such as Junit, HTTPUnit, etc
  • Experience with XML

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of Relational Database and SQL queries
  • Experience with Agile development methodologies such as Scrum
  • Experience with XSL/ Webservices an added plus.
