Systems Administrator

Location: San Mateo, CA

BigMachines, Inc., a profitable, rapidly growing web software company (www.bigmachines.com) with offices in Deerfield, IL (Chicago north suburbs) and San Mateo, CA (Peninsula/Bay Area), is in search of a Systems Administrator. The company has been growing 50-100% p.a., is led by a strong management team, and backed by strong financial investors, who are looking to accelerate the company's growth to the next level.

This position will be 2nd shift (2pm-10pm). Responsibilities include maintenance of mission critical infrastructure, 24x7 rotating on-call response for critical response and thought leadership in general infrastructure growth and development

Duties:

  • 2nd shift (2pm-10pm)
  • 24x7x365 rotating on-call critical response on customer facing issues
  • Support of infrastructure systems (Servers, switches, routers, Firewall and ASA) in co-located data centers
  • Support Local internal users with desktop/laptop builds, troubleshooting and support
  • Inter-team collaboration and thought leadership in general infrastructure growth and development
  • Effective communication of technical information to team members, management, and vendors
  • Performs moves, adds and changes of various Data Center equipment
  • Documentation of new and existing IT Operations processes / procedures

Qualifications:

  • 2-3 years professional experience in systems administration.
  • Knowledge of Storage Management, Backup & Recovery.
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux administration 4/5
  • Database systems: Oracle 9i, 10g and 11g, MySQL
  • Windows 2000 / 2003 domain environment
  • Core knowledge of internet protocols (e.g. SMTP, HTTP, DNS).
  • Core knowledge of firewall, load balancing, and SSL.
  • Configuration knowledge of Cisco ASA products / Network architecture
  • System automation: shell script, batch, perl and vbscript
  • Ability to establish work priorities and manage workload autonomously.
